May is Teen
Pregnancy Prevention Month! |
Even though teen pregnancy for girls ages 15-19 is at an all-time low, we still depend on the month of May to bring awareness to this issue. Teen pregnancy has decreased over the years with new forms of birth control and other contraceptives becoming available to young women everywhere. However, according to hhs.gov the national teen pregnancy rate is still higher in the U.S than other developed countries which is something that needs to be talked about. Why is prevention important? Prevention is important because young girls everywhere should have the chance to flourish and live their life to its fullest potential. The dropout rate of young girls who give birth is extremely high, 50% of girls that give birth in High School receive their diploma by age 22. Whereas the girls using prevention such as absences, birth control, condoms, and other contraceptives are 90% more likely to graduate. Teen pregnancy prevention is something that the CDC is very passionate about and encourages healthcare facilities and schools to spread the word on teen pregnancy prevention so young girls everywhere have a chance to live their life to the fullest, while remaining in control of their bodies and empowering each other through the discussions of pregnancy prevention.
